The “Soul and Flavor Weekend” in Savannah, Georgia, wrapped up on Saturday at Eastern Wharf, showcasing the 3rd Annual Soul & Flavor Food Truck Fest. With over 70 Black-owned vendors and more than 5,000 attendees, the event celebrated the food, art, and music of the local African American community.
Katina Wheeler, Co-Founder & CEO of Discover Black Savannah, highlighted the evolution of the festival into a community experience. The event featured a wide range of offerings, from lemonade and baked goods to artwork and clothing, promoting local Black businesses. Festival volunteer Howard Smith emphasized the importance of cultural connection and community engagement.
The free event also included live entertainment and family activities. Wheeler stated that the weekend exemplified the potential of cultural tourism through the integration of community, culture, and economic opportunities.
Additionally, the Tourism in the Black: Culture & Currency Summit took place on Friday, bringing together various stakeholders to discuss topics related to cultural tourism and entrepreneurship. A Soul Run 5k also occurred on Saturday morning.
