SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Drivers are encouraged by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) to plan ahead for Labor Day weekend travel.
UDOT anticipates additional delays of up to 60 minutes on Interstate 15 and US-6 over the holiday weekend.
Delays for Friday, Sept. 4:
- Southbound I-15: From Spanish Fork to Nephi, expect up to 30 minutes of additional delay between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., peaking around 3 p.m.
- Eastbound US-6: From Spanish Fork to Soldier Summit, anticipate up to 10 minutes of additional delay between noon and 10 p.m., with peak delays around 7 p.m. There will also be lane closures due to construction near Thistle Junction (US-6 and US-89).
Delays for Monday, Sept. 7:
- Westbound US-6: From Soldier Summit to Spanish Fork, expect up to 40 minutes of additional delay between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., peaking at 2 p.m. Lane closures are also expected here.
- Northbound I-15: From Nephi to Spanish Fork, travelers can expect delays of up to 60 minutes between noon and 7 p.m., particularly peaking at 5 p.m.
UDOT reports that most construction projects statewide will be halted to minimize delays, though lane restrictions and traffic shifts in Spanish Fork Canyon and Provo Canyon will remain for safety reasons.
Additionally, at the US-189 and SR-114 intersection in Provo Canyon, drivers should prepare for congestion and longer left-turn queues on Friday and Saturday due to Midway Swiss Days.
