However, costs are climbing; domestic airfare has risen approximately 2% from the previous year, averaging around $750 for a round trip. Certain destinations, including Seattle and Orlando, have seen prices surge nearly 20%.
According to AAA spokesperson Aixa Diaz, significant price drops are unlikely unless some travelers opt out of flying. For those driving, gas prices have also reached record highs, averaging about $4.14 a gallon.
Travelers should be prepared for delays as severe weather movements may disrupt plans. Reports of severe storms have emerged from the Great Lakes to the Northeast, with high wind gusts affecting airports, including Ronald Reagan Washington National. Power outages have impacted over 100,000 customers in the DC area, and flash floods have caused traffic disruptions in Pittsburgh and Milwaukee.
Residents have described intense conditions, with one stating it felt like a hurricane when a tree fell near their home. With the impending busy travel day on Friday, the TSA expects around 2.8 million passengers at airports.
