Oasis Documentary Premieres at Venice Film Festival
The Gallagher brothers brought rock star charisma to the Venice Film Festival, where their documentary, “Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger,” made its world debut. Instead of engaging in a typical news conference, they opted for brief interactions with photographers.
This film combines concert footage with an exploration of the tumultuous relationship between Noel and Liam Gallagher, whose feuding led to the band’s disbandment in 2009, famously marked by a backstage dispute right before a performance in Paris.
Noel has notably described Liam as “the angriest man you’ll ever meet” while Liam claimed in a 2018 interview that Noel was responsible for their breakup, stating he felt betrayed.
Founded in 1991 in Manchester, Oasis became one of the most celebrated British acts of the ’90s, with their debut album “Definitely Maybe” hitting No. 1 in 1994, followed by the iconic “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” in 1995.
The documentary explores Oasis’s legacy, featuring previously unseen rehearsals and the first joint interview of the brothers in 25 years. Following a 16-year hiatus, Oasis reunited for a highly anticipated tour in 2025, kicking off in Cardiff to a crowd of over 60,000.
Filmmakers Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace aimed to depict the evolution of the brothers’ relationship and the lasting impact of Oasis’s music across generations. The documentary will be released in theaters post-festival, with an IMAX showing on September 11, followed by a Disney+ streaming debut later this year.
