The NYPD is implementing extensive security measures for the upcoming Caribbean cultural celebrations, particularly the New York Carnival Parade on Monday. To enhance security, steel barricades will line nearly 2 miles of Eastern Parkway, and the parade will conclude at a designated time of 5:30 p.m. to mitigate risks. While some spectators may find these measures restrictive, many agree they are necessary for a safe and enjoyable event. Public Advocate Jumaane Williams noted the balancing act of ensuring both safety and cultural expression during the planning stages.
Local business owners also support the heightened security, acknowledging the collaborative efforts of city officials and the NYPD to ensure a safe celebration.
