The City of Soledad is celebrating the start of its Fall Youth Soccer Season by distributing over 200 soccer balls on Saturday, Sept. 5. This initiative stems from FIFA’s World Cup 2026 community program that aims to connect youth with the excitement of soccer.
Mayor Anna Velazquez spearheaded Soledad’s participation in this initiative, which provided balls to 500 cities across the U.S. The event, in collaboration with the Salinas Regional Soccer Complex and Monterey Bay Football Club, will feature player-led drills, allowing young athletes to learn from professionals.
Mayor Velazquez expressed the importance of maintaining the enthusiasm generated by the World Cup, stating, “We have an abundance of local talent and Soledad is committed to investing and supporting our future soccer legends.”
Scheduled for 10 AM at Vosti Park at the intersection of Park and Monterey streets, the event will also include guest speakers and a video message from local soccer player Vanessa Aguilar, who was selected for the U-17 division of the Mexican National Soccer Team.
