Metro Detroit is currently dealing with the aftermath of several storms that have caused extensive damage, leaving many residents without power. Utility companies DTE and Consumers Energy are actively working to restore electricity and have mobilized significant resources to address the issues caused by fallen tree limbs and downed power lines.
Megan Kirk from Consumers Energy explained that the weight of tree limbs can damage power lines, complicating restoration efforts while storms are still occurring. Brian Kalka, from DTE, noted that the recent storms were particularly severe and cited ongoing bad weather as a challenge.
Utility companies have deployed around 700 additional crews to expedite the restoration process, a record number for DTE. Terrie Mazliah, a local resident, observed a crew in her Royal Oak neighborhood addressing a downed wire. Despite being grateful for her power, she expressed concern for those still affected.
Residents are advised to exercise caution around downed power lines, keeping at least 25 feet away and contacting emergency services if they encounter one.
