Electric Vehicle Showcase at the 37th Annual Crestone Energy Fair
Crestone, CO — Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more common on Colorado roads, and residents of the San Luis Valley will soon have an opportunity to learn firsthand about owning one.
On Sunday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Crestone Energy Fair will host an EV Showcase at Blue Federal Credit Union (110 East Silver Ave, Crestone). This event is being organized by Desi Parker and Laura Conchelos in conjunction with National Drive Electric Month.
The showcase invites residents to get an up-close experience with electric vehicles and hear from current owners about their personal experiences. Given the unique rural challenges faced in the San Luis Valley, questions might include:
- How far can an electric vehicle travel?
- Where can it be charged?
- How do they perform in cold winter conditions?
- Are they practical for rural areas with distant towns and services?
Participating EV owners will display their vehicles and share valuable insights. Some may even offer rides to interested visitors.
The Crestone showcase is part of a wider celebration running from September 11 to October 12, 2026, where events across the country connect EV owners and the public. This initiative began in 2011 as a single day of EV-focused events and has since grown into a month-long celebration.
People curious about electric vehicles, whether they currently own an EV or not, are encouraged to attend. Current EV owners are also invited to register and showcase their vehicles, emphasizing the community aspect of the event.
The entire Crestone Energy Fair runs from September 11-13, focusing on sustainable practices in construction, energy, land stewardship, and community. This year’s theme is “Tending land, shaping habitats, and growing communities rooted in regeneration.” Visitors can participate in workshops, home tours, and enjoy music and art throughout the weekend.
The EV Showcase not only enhances this year’s Energy Fair but also fosters conversations among residents about electric vehicles, helping bridge the gap for those new to this mode of transportation.
