Binghamton University Unveils New Gaming Lounge ‘Launch Point’ for Students

Binghamton University (BU) has unveiled a new gaming lounge called Launch Point, aimed at providing an interactive space for students to engage in gaming. Located on the ground floor of the Appalachian Collegiate Center, the lounge features 12 high-powered PCs, three large TV screens, and the latest gaming consoles from Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo.

Launch Point is designed to offer an inviting environment for both casual and competitive gaming, allowing students to connect over shared interests. Carla Dancer, the Assistant Director of Client Support at BU, emphasized its goal of encouraging students to come out of their dorms and meet others.

The lounge was developed through collaboration between BU’s Residential Life and Information Technology Services (ITS). Dancer noted that the project took a year and a half of preparation, including extensive interviews and testing of equipment.

The lounge’s design resembles a spaceship, featuring bright lights and frosted windows that create an immersive atmosphere. Equipped with classic and modern games, students can suggest titles to add to the collection. The lounge aims to cater to varied skill levels, from beginners to seasoned players.
