Arkansas Renaissance Festival: A Fall Tradition with Interactive Entertainment
MOUNT VERNON, Ark. (KATV) — Despite summer’s lingering warmth, fall has officially arrived in Arkansas, marking the opening of the Arkansas Renaissance Festival. This weekend, attendees can enjoy extended hours in celebration of the Labor Day holiday.
Colton Holder, a festival organizer, emphasized that the event is designed as “an immersive, interactive experience,” featuring over 70 stage shows daily, more than 100 vendors, and 10 on-site restaurants. Unlike typical performances, visitors are encouraged to engage actively in the festivities.
One of the standout attractions is the Knights of Mayhem, led by 14-time world champion jouster Charlie Andrews. He describes the troupe as “North America’s premier full-contact jousting troupe,” highlighting that their performances are authentic jousts rather than choreographed shows. Andrews invites everyone, stating the show caters to “anyone from 8 to 80, blind, crippled, or crazy,” encouraging attendees to “come for the jousting, stay for the rest of the entertainment,” which also includes magicians, pirates, and Vikings.
Holder takes pride in the festival’s high-quality performers, aiming to provide world-class entertainment. Beyond the weekend shows, the festival offers Dragonstone Experiences, which include Wednesday classes and excursions in various skills, such as arms training, horseback riding, pottery, blacksmithing, and even magic lessons.
Festival food is also a highlight, featuring classic offerings like massive turkey legs, meat pies, and Scotch eggs, along with kid-friendly options like chicken strips and diverse beverages.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate, with options including single-day, weekend, season passes, and a Friends of Festival pass.
For those concerned about the heat, Andrews reassured attendees that shade has been installed over the bleachers for comfort. He humorously reminded everyone to “remember your deodorant” as they enjoy the festivities in the warm weather.
