Two runaway dogs are back home safe after a Florida deputy spent nearly an hour tracking them down and freeing them from the bottom of a seawall. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reported that Zoey and Monkey were out for a walk with their owner when she fell, causing the leashes to slip from her grip.
The dogs ended up behind a gated business near Joe’s Creek and got stuck at the bottom of a ditch. In body camera footage, the deputy is seen calling for them before noticing their barks coming from the ditch.
Reaching them was challenging, as the officer had to navigate through thick brush and find a way across the water. After nearly an hour, he located them and successfully pulled them up from the seawall.
Both dogs were reunited with their relieved owner, showing no signs of injury. The sheriff’s office humorously noted that the outing taught them one thing: “unsupervised adventures aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.”
This incident serves as a reminder of how quickly a routine walk can turn into a precarious situation, especially in areas with steep terrain or enclosed spaces.
