Millions of Indiana Residents Anticipated to Hit the Road for Labor Day

High Travel Expected for Labor Day Weekend

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – This Labor Day weekend is anticipated to witness a surge in travel as many take advantage of the holiday break, with some already beginning their journeys.

According to AAA Hoosier, a couple million residents from Indiana are expected to travel this Labor Day. Popular destinations include Seattle, Orlando, Boston, Denver, New York, and Chicago.

AAA Hoosier Travel Agent Greg Seiter advises travelers to plan well in advance. He emphasized, “Even within the state, demand is very high. I would caution anyone traveling this weekend to allow themselves extra time, as both roadways and airports will be busy.”

Flight prices have increased by 2% to 20%, while Indiana residents will continue to benefit from gas tax relief through September 3, saving around 60 cents per gallon.

“More and more people are traveling, especially around Labor Day, trying to make the most of their last summer opportunities,” Seiter noted.

Travelers hitting the road this weekend are urged to exercise extra caution due to increased traffic.
