Labor Day Travel Advisory for Wisconsin Drivers
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WBAY) — Get ready for increased traffic this Labor Day weekend, particularly on Saturday from noon to 8 p.m., as thousands plan to travel despite the highest recorded gas prices for this holiday—80 to 90 cents higher than last year.
Road Conditions and Safety Tips
Travelers are advised to utilize the 511 app for real-time updates on road closures, delays, and conditions. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) highlights that entering a destination takes only 15 seconds.
Focus on Driver Behavior
Mark Kantola, communications manager for the DOT, emphasized that driver behavior is a major concern during holiday travel. He urges drivers to eliminate distractions, particularly mobile phone use, stating, “A quick glance can cause you to cover the length of a football field without seeing the road.”
Additionally, motorists should exercise caution in construction zones, even when crews are not active, adhering to speed limits of 55 or 60 mph.
Aerial Enforcement in Outagamie County
Travelers through Outagamie County will encounter aerial enforcement, where state patrol aircraft will monitor speed. Kantola noted the effectiveness of this tactic: “If you’re breaking speed laws on the 5th, you stand a much higher chance of getting a ticket.”
