The Serota family is mourning the loss of their dog, Miller, who they allege died after being left in a hot van for seven hours at Waggles Pet Resort in Wheeling. The family reported that the 110-pound black lab was picked up from their Deerfield home around 9 a.m. on a day when temperatures reached the mid-90s.
After receiving a call at 4 p.m. informing them of Miller’s death, they rushed to the pet resort, where they found him in a crate inside the van, unresponsive. The Serotas, who had trusted Waggles with Miller’s care three times a week since he was a puppy, are seeking an investigation into the incident.
Steve Serota expressed disbelief over what happened, emphasizing their trust in the facility and the need for accountability. The family has filed a police report and is advocating for measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. Waggles Pet Resort has not yet responded to the allegations.
