CPS Energy Restores Power After Major Storm
September 3, 2026 (San Antonio) – CPS Energy has successfully restored all storm-related power outages as of September 1, following a severe weather event that impacted the San Antonio area over the weekend. Over 250,000 customers lost power at the storm’s peak.
Frank Almaraz, interim president and CEO of CPS Energy, expressed gratitude to the customers for their patience and acknowledged the hard work of employees and partnering agencies: “None of this would be possible without the countless hours put in by our employees, contractors, and mutual assistance partners who worked around the clock to restore service.”
The storm, which hit Friday night, brought winds of up to 65 miles per hour and was accompanied by approximately 2,481 lightning strikes, resulting in extensive damage throughout the service area. Key impacts included:
- 1,000+ downed-wire calls
- 280 tree-trimming operations for debris clearance
- 137 transformer replacements
- Over 60 pole replacements
At the height of restoration efforts, more than 80 crews, bolstered by CPS Energy contractors and Pedernales Electric Cooperative, were deployed across the affected areas.
CPS Energy’s Customer Response Unit provided essential supplies such as water, ice, and food to over 1,000 customers at Woodlawn Lake Park, one of the neighborhoods hardest hit by the storm.
The utility is collaborating with local and government agencies to support those who experienced prolonged outages. They thank the San Antonio community for their understanding during the restoration process. Customers needing assistance with payments or who wish to sign up for Energy Alerts are encouraged to call 210-353-2222.
