Consumers Energy Working to Restore Power After Storm

Consumers Energy is actively restoring power after a storm affected 34,000 customers on Thursday due to strong winds, severe thunderstorms, and hail. Approximately 15,000 customers have had their service restored, and over 275 crews are working in 16-hour shifts to further assist.
Statement from Officials:
Norm Kapala, a Consumers Energy officer, acknowledged the serious damage caused by the storm and thanked customers for their patience. He urged caution when traveling due to extensive damage and ongoing restoration work.
Safety Tips for Customers:
- Stay Safe Near Power Lines: Maintain a distance of at least 25 feet from downed power lines and report any unguarded lines to 911 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050.
- Generator Safety: Never use generators in enclosed spaces, including garages or basements, to avoid carbon monoxide hazards.
- Tree Management: Consumers Energy will handle tree trimming or removal that interferes with power restoration. Homeowners are responsible for subsequent cleanup.
- Damage Repair: If the service mast is damaged, a licensed electrician must repair or replace it, even if the utility crew reconnects the service wires.
