Consumers Energy introduces a two-decade strategy featuring two new natural gas facilities in mid-Michigan.

Consumers Energy has unveiled a comprehensive 20-year plan that focuses on enhancing renewable energy resources and constructing two new natural gas power plants in mid-Michigan, specifically in Genesee County and Bay County. According to spokesman Brian Wheeler, it has been decades since the company initiated such a large-scale project.

Wheeler emphasized the importance of these plants, stating that while they may not operate continuously, they will provide immediate support during peak demand, such as on hot days when air conditioning usage surges. This capability allows the plants to quickly respond to the energy needs of not just local communities, but the entire state of Michigan.

The proposed plan will require approval from state regulators, and company leaders intend to engage with residents near the proposed plant sites in the coming months.
