The Wiikwedong Early Childhood Development Collaborative recently held its fifth annual culture camp in Baraga, Michigan, focusing on enhancing Ojibwe culture in early childhood development. This year’s theme, “From First Breath Forward: Strengthening Ojibwe Beginnings for Children and Families,” included workshops on topics such as herbal supplements using tribal ingredients, newborn nutrition, and breastfeeding techniques.
Experts from across the region were brought in to provide diverse knowledge, accommodating the needs and interests of various educators involved. The camp emphasized the integration of both mainstream and Native teachings, aiming to educate not only the Native community but the wider public as well.
