Fire Incident in Salem: Seven Animals Rescued
On Wednesday, a fire broke out in a home on Highland Avenue in Salem, trapping seven animals inside, including three dogs and four cats. Tragically, the cats did not survive.
First responders arrived promptly and worked bravely to rescue the trapped animals, cornering dogs and risking their own safety in the process. The three dogs were rescued and immediately rushed to a nearby veterinary clinic for emergency treatment.
The Columbiana County Humane Society commended the first responders for their quick actions. The Salem Fire Department expressed gratitude for the off-duty personnel and firefighters from Green, Perry, and Damascus who assisted on the scene. Although the fire was brought under control, the home sustained significant damage.
In a heartwarming gesture, a nearby resident provided watermelon to the firefighting crews to help them cool off, which was greatly appreciated on such a hot day.
