NYC Council to Invest in 9/11 Educational Programs
New York City Council members are set to announce a significant investment aimed at enhancing educational programming about the 9/11 attacks for future generations. The announcement will take place on Thursday morning at Ground Zero, specifically outside the Oculus.
This funding initiative is a partnership with the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Following the announcement, Council Speaker Julie Menin will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the nearly 3,000 victims of the attacks, marking the 25th anniversary of the tragedy.
As part of the remembrance activities, various events are already happening across the city. Recently, 36 new names of individuals who succumbed to 9/11-related illnesses were added to the FDNY’s World Trade Center Memorial Wall in Brooklyn. Additionally, firefighters from Ladder 6 in Chinatown reunited with the family of Josephine Harris, a survivor they rescued from the North Tower.
In the coming days, more events are planned, including an art installation at St. Paul’s Chapel, featuring 2,977 hand-folded paper cranes—each representing a victim of September 11.
