The Iowa Utilities Commission and MidAmerican Energy will hold a meeting in Cedar Rapids to discuss a proposal for a natural gas rate increase. If approved, this would raise the average monthly gas bill by approximately 5%, or about $2.89.
A public comment meeting is set for September 8 at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, with an additional virtual meeting on September 9 at noon. Customers can also submit written comments to the Iowa Utilities Commission.
MidAmerican Energy filed this request in July, citing the need to maintain its infrastructure. They noted that current natural gas prices remain lower than those from 20 years ago. Additional meetings are planned for Des Moines and Sioux City.
