Labor Day Weekend Gas Prices Rise in Nebraska and Iowa
With Labor Day weekend approaching, motorists are facing significantly higher gas prices, as reported by AAA. In Omaha, the average price is currently $3.75 per gallon, nearly a dollar increase from last year.
Drivers express their frustration over the rising costs, with many opting to pump smaller amounts in hopes of prices decreasing. Robert Fenster, owner of Buchanan’s Service Center in Omaha, observes that while some hesitate to fill their tanks, they ultimately realize they need gas to get around. He also notes that the time of day affects how much fuel drivers can get, suggesting that filling up in the cooler morning hours yields more gas due to condensation.
AAA spokesperson Brian Ortner highlights that the average gas price in Nebraska has jumped from $2.94 last year to $3.92 currently. This August was noted as the highest on record for gas prices, with national averages exceeding $4 per gallon daily.
To manage costs, Ortner advises motorists to prepare by bringing snacks, adhering to speed limits, and maintaining proper tire pressure. Both Fenster and Ortner recommend checking gas prices along travel routes before heading out this weekend.
