Nestlé Purina has officially inaugurated its newest pet food manufacturing plant in Batavia, Ohio. The event featured a ceremonial ribbon cutting attended by company leaders, employees, and community officials.

Facility Size: The new plant covers 1.3 million square feet and is Purina’s 24th factory in the U.S. It stands as the company’s first green-field factory built from the ground up since 1975.

Investment: The construction of the Batavia facility, which began following its announcement in October 2020, represents a $550 million investment—the largest to date for any Purina facility.

Production and Workforce: The facility is operational and currently produces products like Purina Pro Plan, Purina One, and Dog Chow, employing 430 people initially, with an anticipated workforce of over 500 once fully operational.

Advanced Technology: The facility is equipped with cutting-edge food safety systems, digital manufacturing tools, robotics, and an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) to streamline production.

Community Engagement: Purina has also established a Manufacturing Experience Center designed to educate visitors, including students and community leaders, about modern manufacturing practices. The plant aims to cater to the needs of around 8 million pets annually.
