The partnership between Fervo Energy and Google includes a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) that allows Google to expand its energy offtake by nearly 600 MW, reaching a total of approximately 1 GW by June 2030. The deal aims to provide additional reliable electricity capacity without incurring costs for existing ratepayers.
Fervo and Google emphasize their commitment to responsible growth, focusing on transparency and engagement with local communities. Tim Latimer, CEO of Fervo, highlighted the need for scalable and reliable energy resources, especially as demand increases. The partnership started with Project Red in Nevada, which has successfully delivered power to Google’s data centers.
Following this success, a 115 MW PPA was established, enabling the integration of geothermal energy into the Nevada grid while protecting consumers from costs. Lucia Tian from Google noted that this collaboration will provide significant economic benefits and reduce long-term energy costs.
The current PPA is part of Fervo’s broader expansion at Cape Station, shifting to a modular, scalable power solution aimed at making advanced geothermal energy more accessible, pending regulatory approvals.
