Legacy Entertainment Unveils Plans for Beijing Haichang Ocean Park Set to Open in 2027
Legacy Entertainment, a leading theme park and resort design company, is gearing up for the 2027 grand opening of Beijing Haichang Ocean Park. The project, designed in collaboration with its subsidiary, The Aquarium Design Company, will feature an advanced aquarium and an eight-floor resort hotel.
With vertical construction underway in the Tongzhou district, neighboring the Universal Studios Beijing resort, the announcement comes as excitement builds around this new attraction. Spanning 157,100 square meters (1.7 million square feet), the facility will house the world’s largest new aquarium under construction.
Key Features
- Height: The complex will rise to 23.9 meters, incorporating three exhibit levels above ground and two subterranean levels for parking and services.
- Visitor Capacity: The aquarium is expected to welcome 4 million guests annually.
Collaborative Development
Developed jointly by Tongzhou Cultural Tourism Group and Haichang Ocean Park—one of China’s premier marine life park operators—the new aquarium marks the first major aquarium built in Beijing since 2000. It also represents a significant collaboration between Haichang and Legacy Entertainment, following the success of Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, which opened in 2018 and attracts over 4 million visitors each year.
Design Innovations
In contrast to its Shanghai counterpart, the Beijing Haichang Ocean Park will predominantly be indoors, designed to accommodate the region’s harsh winter climate.
Legacy Entertainment’s contributions to the global aquarium and oceanarium design landscape have expanded with the successful openings of the Sea Shell Aquarium in Vietnam (2022) and the Chimelong Spaceship in Zhuhai, China (2023), which holds seven world records as the largest aquarium and indoor theme park.
In 2022, Legacy launched its seventh division, The Safari Park Company, to address the rising demand for designing and upgrading safari parks and zoo attractions worldwide.
