John Barker Appointed CIO of Heinz Endowments
John Barker has been named the new Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of the $2.2 billion Heinz Endowments, following his recent departure from the Kresge Foundation. In this role, Barker will manage investment strategies and oversee relationships with investment advisers and the investment committee.
Barker brings nearly two decades of experience from the Kresge Foundation, where he served for 19 years, including the last four years as CIO. Prior to that, he was the assistant investment director at the University of Notre Dame and served as treasurer for the Foundation for Detroit’s Future.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Barker expressed his enthusiasm for returning home. “It’s a chance to come home and contribute to a mission that matters deeply to me,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of the team’s work and his commitment to its mission.
Following Barker’s transition, the Kresge Foundation announced that Jon Gentry, a managing director and long-standing Kresge employee, will assume the role of CIO. Emily Bertsche, managing director of private markets, has been appointed as deputy CIO, effective September 1.
