The North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) is set to invest up to $600,000 to develop critical rail infrastructure for Great Southern Wood-NC, Inc. This investment is part of Great Southern Wood’s new manufacturing facility in Scotland County, NC, with a total project investment of $40 million that is anticipated to create over 40 full-time jobs.
Project Details
- The NCRR Invests grant will support the design and construction of on-site rail infrastructure at Laurinburg-Maxton Airport.
- Upon completion, Great Southern Wood-NC plans to utilize this infrastructure for a minimum of 421 railcar shipments annually by 2030.
Company Background
Founded in 1970 in Alabama, the Laurinburg facility will mark the company’s 17th treatment plant. The company focuses on producing pressure-treated pine and distributing various building materials to dealers across 28 states and the District of Columbia.
NCRR Invests Program
NCRR uses private funding, not taxpayer dollars, to support rail projects that encourage new employment opportunities, industry growth, and overall competitiveness in North Carolina. Since its inception in 2016, NCRR has invested over $18 million in rail improvements, creating more than 12,200 jobs.
