Young Thug Gears Up for Punk Release
Enigmatic Atlanta rapper Young Thug is set to release his album Punk on October 15. He recently gave Complex an inside look into his world as he finalizes the record.
The publication’s “Young Thug Week” features interviews with the artist and his YSL collaborators, including Gunna and Strick. Here are five intriguing insights from Thug’s upcoming album and lifestyle:
1. Strict All-White Dress Code
During recording sessions, Thug implemented an all-white dress code. Collaborators wore white attire, while the space was transformed with artificial snow and icy decor, despite the warm Atlanta weather.
2. Focus on Personal Storytelling
Unlike his earlier work, Punk emphasizes personal narratives. Thug states, “Punk is just real-life stories… it’s just real.” He aims to surprise fans with the album’s emotional depth.
3. Nate Ruess Contributes Vocals
Nate Ruess from Fun. participated in recording Punk, abiding by the album’s all-white dress code. Thug, a longtime fan of Fun., hinted at Ruess’ undisclosed but significant contribution.
4. Multiple Exotic Pets Named Tootie
Thug owns various exotic pets, all named Tootie. This inspired the name of YSL’s studio, “Snake Pit.” Gunna mentioned they treat these pets as family.
5. Inspiration for Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy”
Thug revealed that he inspired the theme behind Drake’s Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Way 2 Sexy.” He played a critical role in guiding its creative direction.
Thug is also set to perform on Saturday Night Live on October 16, following the album release, and has already teased the album with the single “Tick Tock.”
