Amazon unveils $6 billion investment in data center in Shreveport, Louisiana

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to build a third data center campus in northwest Louisiana, raising its investment in the region from $12 billion to $18 billion. This new facility will be located at Resilient Technology Park in west Shreveport, joining two other campuses already under construction in Caddo and Bossier parishes.

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux hailed the project as a significant win for the community, citing the region’s ample water supply and positive environmental management practices. However, the construction faced delays due to litigation involving three plaintiffs, supported by the Sierra Club Delta Chapter, which is still pending in court.

Despite the legal challenges, Amazon officials remain optimistic and ready to proceed with the project, which is projected to generate 210 direct jobs and 499 indirect jobs, amounting to 709 new job opportunities. The project will be developed by STACK Infrastructure and is expected to support up to 2,250 construction jobs.

Keith Klein, Amazon’s director of Data Center Supply Solutions, emphasized that the increased investment will enhance local job opportunities and benefit surrounding businesses. In addition, Amazon intends to invest up to $400 million in public water infrastructure to support all three campuses and is working with local utilities to ensure capacity for both new and existing customers. The company is also coordinating with Southwestern Electric Power Company for essential energy grid upgrades for the data centers.
