NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang recently announced that the company is negotiating to invest up to $3 billion in SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank, which is working on a significant data center project in Ohio for OpenAI. This investment is part of broader discussions involving providing approximately $100 billion in credit support for the data center initiative.
The plan includes Nvidia potentially investing half of the $3 billion upon signing the Ohio project deal, with the remainder tied to SB Energy’s upcoming initial public offering (IPO), which aims to raise at least $5 billion. SB Energy, backed by OpenAI, focuses on developing extensive power and data center projects to meet the increasing demand for AI workloads.
Additionally, reports indicate that Nvidia has scaled back its financial support for the Ohio data center from a previously discussed $250 billion guarantee to under $120 billion. The developments highlight ongoing efforts to bolster infrastructure for artificial intelligence endeavors.
