Transportation Secretary Reveals $40 Million Investment in Rail Safety for Fairfield

The U.S. Department of Transportation is investing $5.3 billion in various rail projects nationwide, with $40 million allocated for a project in Fairfield, Ohio. This initiative aims to enhance rail safety, upgrade infrastructure, and support passenger rail services. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy emphasized that the funding will focus on closing at-grade rail crossings, specifically in Fairfield, where two crossings will be closed and a new bridge constructed. This separation of road and rail traffic is intended to reduce collision risks, alleviate congestion, and improve emergency response times. The project is part of a broader effort to close over 30 high-risk railroad crossings and upgrade more than 1,000 others across the country.
