Tracking Two Invests in the Atlantic as Cristobal Moves East
The Atlantic remains very active with Tropical Storm Cristobal and two other areas of interest.
Tropical Storm Cristobal
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Tropical Storm Cristobal is located 1,050 miles northeast of Bermuda, producing sustained winds of 45 mph and moving east at 21 mph. Cristobal is expected to be a short-lived storm as it travels towards cooler waters tomorrow. Fortunately, it poses no threat to the U.S. as it moves away from North America.
Area One: Invest 92L
As of 8 p.m. Wednesday, Invest 92L is 900 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. This area is seeing a high likelihood of development, with a predicted 80% chance of becoming a tropical depression within the next two days. However, it will encounter dry air and increasing wind shear as it moves westward towards the Caribbean.
Area Two: Invest 94L
Also being monitored is Invest 94L, a tropical wave near the west coast of Africa. Development of this system is possible but faces similar environmental challenges. The chance of it becoming at least a tropical depression within 48 hours is 30%, while there’s a 50% chance over the next week.
What is an Invest?
“Invest” stands for “area of tropical weather investigation.” When designated as an invest, the National Hurricane Center can run specific forecast models to evaluate the likelihood of development. However, it does not guarantee formation.
