Three Areas Being Watched for Development Over the Atlantic Ocean
The Gulf Coast Hurricane Tracking Team is currently monitoring three significant areas of potential tropical development over the Atlantic Ocean.
Area One: Invest 92L
- Location: Approximately 700 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
- Development Odds: Currently at 60% over the next two days and increasing to 80% over the next seven days.
- Forecast: Expected to develop into a tropical depression later this week, with a movement towards the Caribbean Sea. There is a possibility it could curve northward, away from the U.S., depending on high-pressure ridges.
Area Two: Invest 93L
- Location: About 900 miles northeast of Bermuda.
- Development Odds: Increased to 40% over the next two days; however, it poses no threat to the United States as it is moving eastward.
Area Three: Tropical Wave Off of Africa
- Location: Recently emerged off the west coast of Africa.
- Development Odds: Currently at 10% for the next 48 hours, with a 20% chance of development over the next seven days.

An “Invest” is an area of tropical weather investigation. It allows the National Hurricane Center to utilize specialized forecast models to evaluate the potential for development. It is important to note that an Invest status does not guarantee formation of an organized weather system.
