Intel has raised the size of its common stock offering from $15 billion to $20 billion as it seeks to secure additional capital for its expanding investments in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
On Tuesday, the company announced it has priced approximately 210.53 million shares at $95 each, aiming to generate net proceeds of approximately $19.7 billion after accounting for underwriting discounts and related expenses.
Additionally, Intel has granted underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to 31.58 million additional shares at the same offering price. If this option is fully exercised, the gross value of the transaction could potentially reach around $23 billion.
The offering is expected to close on Wednesday, pending customary closing conditions. Proceeds from this stock sale will be allocated for general corporate purposes, which may include capital expenditures and working capital.
Intel has pinpointed several key areas for investment, including AI computing, purpose-built chips, advanced packaging, and enhancing semiconductor manufacturing capacity. These areas are crucial as demand for data centers and computing infrastructure continues to grow in response to the escalating investments in AI technology.
This increased offering underscores the significant financial requirements that semiconductor manufacturers face as technology companies ramp up spending on chips, power capacity, and data center infrastructures to foster AI development.
