Reading – Nibsy’s Gluten-Free Coffee Van Celebrates Its First Anniversary

Nibsy’s Gluten-Free Coffee Trailer: A Journey of Perseverance

Since its opening on August 5, 2025, Nibsy’s coffee trailer, known affectionately as ‘Beryl’, has established a significant presence outside Reading train station. Despite facing initial setbacks, such as an overnight break-in that necessitated repairs, owner Naomi Lowe remained steadfast. Once Beryl was operational again, Nibsy’s made a strategic move to a more favorable location near the Forbury Gardens Carluccio’s restaurant before settling by the train station on December 1 to capitalize on the heavy commuter foot traffic.

Naomi, who previously owned a gluten-free café on Cross Street, encountered new challenges in running a trailer. The initial months were tough, compounded by the damp December weather that deterred potential customers. “It felt like two months of solid rain… by January my cash flow was so dire,” she recalls, admitting to doubts about her decision.

However, spring brought a turning point, allowing Nibsy’s to flourish as a base of regular customers emerged. Now, the business is thriving, with Naomi expressing gratitude for the positive shift and the enthusiastic response to their gluten-free offerings, including sausage rolls and cheese balls.

Starting her mornings at 4:30 AM, Naomi ensures that each gluten-free item is freshly baked and ready for eager customers. She notes that many regular coffee drinkers are venturing to try the food, appreciating the gluten-free options that cater to those with dietary restrictions.

Naomi remains optimistic about the future, hoping to maintain the momentum and continue delivering quality products. “I don’t have any grand plans other than continuing to do what we do, and do it really well,” she states confidently.
