Kansas City electorate approves funding for affordable housing, community infrastructure, and East Side progress.

Kansas City voters have approved five ballot questions during the August 4 primary election, leading to significant investments in the city’s development and infrastructure.

Key details include:

  • All five questions received over two-thirds “YES” votes.
  • Mayor Quinton Lucas expressed pride in the results, emphasizing the aim to create a more affordable city and improve infrastructure, especially for historically underserved communities.

The approved measures are:

  1. $100 million for the Housing Trust Fund to support affordable housing initiatives.
  2. Bonds for repairs of historic civic buildings, including Municipal Auditorium, Bartle Hall, and City Hall.
  3. Renewal of a 10-year 1/8-cent CCED sales tax to fund East Side projects, focusing on housing for the Black community.
  4. $750 million in revenue bonds each for upgrading the drinking water system and enhancing the stormwater and sanitary sewer systems.

These initiatives reflect a commitment to improving city infrastructure and addressing community needs.
