Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato has announced a significant investment aimed at enhancing neighborhood business districts through the Main Streets Allegheny Program. This initiative will allocate $1.4 million in implementation grants to 22 municipalities, alongside more than $800,000 to support local community events.
Managed by Allegheny County Economic Development, the program seeks to provide resources for physical improvements and district activation throughout the county. The funded projects range from streetscape enhancements in Wilmerding to a gateway revitalization in Etna, and include sidewalk replacements in Elizabeth, placemaking murals in Duquesne, and more.
Additionally, the $800,000 earmarked for community events will support 52 projects, including major attractions like the Three Rivers Arts Festival and local gatherings such as the Bellevue Night Market. Innamorato emphasized the vital role of community members and small business owners in making these efforts successful.
The program also features a Technical Assistance Program that connects municipalities with specialized consultants for revitalization planning. Interested municipalities can now apply for these opportunities online.
