Aeropuertos Mexicanos (AME) is set to invest MX$350 million (approximately US$20.2 million) in modernizing Plan de Guadalupe International Airport in Saltillo, Coahuila. This initiative aims to expand commercial jet capacity to accommodate rising passenger demand, particularly in the industrial region near Monterrey.
During the ACI-LAC Airport Commercial Forum 2026 in Mexico City, AME CEO Javier García discussed plans to allocate US$400 million for new terminal projects and expansions at Tepic and Puerto Escondido airports, along with the Saltillo investment. The project is designed to enhance air transport capacity and support regional development.
The initial phase at Saltillo focuses on upgrading airside facilities to handle larger aircraft like the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, while also improving passenger processing areas without interrupting current operations. Completion is expected before Holy Week 2024. Future route expansions are planned, including international connections to Texas.
In addition, AME is investing significantly in Pacific coast terminals, adding 40,000 m² of infrastructure at Tepic and Puerto Escondido, aiming to bolster tourism and accommodate increasing passenger traffic.
