Allen-based drone technology company EagleNXT is investing in Ohio’s Agilis Air Inc., marking its third strategic investment this year according to CEO Bill Irby.
“We’ve been looking at strategic expansion across technologies and product lines,” Irby stated, highlighting the potential of Agilis’ patented designs and technology.
Formation of the Deal
EagleNXT, the trade name for AgEagle Aerial Systems Inc., was introduced to Agilis through a mutual investor. Conversations between key figures from both companies illuminated common interests in advancing drone manufacturing.
Irby emphasized Agilis’ innovative approach to scalable manufacturing using techniques like 3D printing to meet specific defense needs—a unique aspect of their technology.
The investment strategy is structured as a convertible note, allowing EagleNXT to potentially convert it into equity ownership in the future.
About Agilis Air
Founded in 2025, Agilis specializes in low-cost drones built on a fully domestic supply chain. Their primary product, the Remora, focuses on intelligence, surveillance, and tactical operations.
Shawn Theiss, Agilis CEO, expressed enthusiasm regarding the partnership, noting that it will leverage EagleNXT’s expertise and government relationships.
EagleNXT’s Investment Strategy
This investment aligns with EagleNXT’s consistent strategy to enhance its technology portfolio. Previous investments this year include:
- Aerodrome Group – An Israeli developer of precision munitions.
- ThirdEye Systems – A partnership focused on counter-drone technologies.
This approach minimizes risks and costs compared to starting from scratch or making full acquisitions.
Irby mentioned that EagleNXT is assessing two more potential deals but remains focused on its core mission—drones, counter-drone systems, and sensors.
Growth Plans in North Texas
EagleNXT has shifted its global headquarters to Allen in a 36,000-square-foot facility focusing on manufacturing and integrating its drone systems. Currently employing a small team, Irby anticipates rapid growth, especially in engineering talent, emphasizing the local technical landscape from nearby universities.
Future Technology Goals
A long-term focus for EagleNXT is to enhance drone autonomy, striving to achieve a higher operational level on the autonomy scale (currently at levels two or three).
