PARSONS, Kan. — A Heartwarming Community Effort
Recently, kids from across the United States converged in Parsons to lend a helping hand to those in need. One of the standout stories involved Marilyn Walters, whose daughter Amber required a new wheelchair ramp. Previously, they had to navigate a challenging situation just to get her in and out of the house safely.
Marilyn expressed immense gratitude for the new ramp, stating, “She’s thrilled to death with it because we’ve all been worried about having emergencies where something might happen that she would be on her own for a minute.”
In total, fourteen different homes in Parsons benefited from the volunteers’ efforts, receiving enhancements such as paint jobs, ramps, and even new porches.
Pastor Doug Beaty from Westside Christian Church facilitated the project, commending the youth for spending a week away from their phones and families to make a difference. He remarked, “It’s encouraging to see youth willing to give up a week of their cell phone… and come here and do something really kind for their neighbors, even across the country.”
The teens not only worked on physical projects but also engaged in spiritual gatherings and reflections, which added deeper meaning to their efforts. Pastor Beaty believes that this initiative can inspire more communities to undertake similar causes in the future, highlighting the importance of sacrifice and giving.
“It’s an act of sacrifice, and it’s an act of giving that they can do. We love to see it in more communities abroad,” he added.
