A community conversation on fostering respectful disagreement and finding common ground is happening today at the Urbandale High School Performing Arts Center. The free Civility Dialogues event features notable speakers including Tom Vilsack, CEO of the World Food Prize Foundation, and former Iowa governor; Alexandra Hudson, author of “The Soul of Civility”; Urbandale Mayor Robert Andeweg; and City Council member Patricia Boddy. Greg Robinson, former superintendent of the Urbandale Community School District, will moderate the discussion.
Originally scheduled at the Urbandale Public Library, the event was moved to accommodate the high level of interest. Mayor Andeweg remarked that the strong response indicates a community desire for constructive conversations. He emphasized that civility allows for honest discussions about differences while still fostering community progress.
This event is part of Urbandale’s yearlong Civility Series. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 6 p.m. The address is 7111 Aurora Ave.
