Memphis Police are providing over $40,000 in grants to support local organizations focused on improving safety and community conditions. The funding comes from the MPD’s Neighborhood Crime Prevention Grant Program and will benefit 17 groups working on projects like neighborhood cleanups, beautification, and public safety.
During a ceremony in Whitehaven, leaders and officials recognized the grant recipients, including the Southwest Memphis Community Foundation, awarded $2,500 for a curb appeal project. Brittany Gayles emphasized the importance of maintaining clear sidewalks to prevent crime.
Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis highlighted the impact of neighborhood conditions on crime rates, while Mayor Paul Young noted the significance of community involvement in driving change. Overall, the grants aim to empower residents and foster a sense of ownership in their neighborhoods.
