The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced new guidelines to help airlines manage in-cabin pet travel throughout the journey, from booking to arrival. This initiative comes alongside the recently issued guidance on traveling with service dogs, aiming to enhance consistency in air transport for pets.
Brendan Sullivan, IATA’s Global Head of Cargo, emphasized the importance of pets as family members and the need for clear travel guidelines to ensure a safe and efficient experience. A recent survey revealed that around 25% of respondents are willing to travel with pets, with significant concerns about eligibility, airline policies, and the overall travel process.
The new guidelines aim to address these concerns by providing recommended procedures to ensure safety, animal welfare, and operational efficiency. IATA represents over 370 airlines, covering about 85% of global air traffic.
