IATA Recommendations Enhance Clarity and Consistency for Traveling with Pets in Cabin

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has introduced new operational guidelines aimed at assisting airlines with in-cabin pet travel. These guidelines cover the entire journey, from booking to arrival, and are part of IATA’s broader initiative to provide consistent policies for traveling with pets, including service dogs.

According to a 2025 Global Passenger Survey by IATA, around 25% of respondents expressed interest in traveling with pets. Major concerns highlighted included:

  • 41%: Uncertainty regarding pet eligibility
  • 36%: Unsure about airline policies
  • 34%: Confusion over the overall process of traveling with a pet

The new guidelines seek to streamline the pet travel experience while prioritizing safety, animal welfare, and operational efficiency. A full ten-page report is available through AVIONEWS.
