Texas Governor Announces New AI Manufacturing Facility

AUSTIN, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott has revealed plans to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) manufacturing facility in McKinney, Texas, in partnership with Taiwanese electronics manufacturer LITEON.

The project is projected to generate hundreds of jobs and nearly $1 billion in investments as Texas aims to enhance its technology manufacturing sector.

Significant Investment and Job Creation in North Texas

Governor Abbott disclosed that the initial phase of the project includes a $307 million capital investment, expected to create 500 jobs. Texas will contribute $3.5 million from the Texas Enterprise Fund, alongside a $100,000 Veteran Created Job Bonus.

The Texas Enterprise Fund is a performance-based incentive program that offers grants to companies considering Texas against other states based on job creation and capital investment.

The facility will focus on designing and manufacturing AI-powered systems and AI infrastructure solutions, which is crucial as companies expand data center capacities.

Reactions from LITEON and Local Leaders

LITEON aims to invest approximately $919 million in the project, creating over 600 jobs over time. Chairman Tom Soong calls this expansion a historic milestone for the company. McKinney Mayor Bill Cox noted that the investment would bolster the city’s advanced manufacturing sector, creating new opportunities for residents.

Governor Abbott emphasized that the project solidifies Texas’ role as a hub for advanced electronics manufacturing and innovation.

Future of AI Manufacturing in North Texas

This announcement is part of a broader trend of significant manufacturing investments in North Texas, especially in semiconductors, electronics, and AI-related sectors.

Founded in 1975 in Taiwan, LITEON specializes in power management systems and optoelectronics, serving various sectors including cloud computing, automotive electronics, 5G communications, and AI infrastructure.
