Last week in Parsons, Kansas, kids from all over the country gathered to lend a helping hand to those in need. One notable story involved a wheelchair ramp gifted to Marilyn Walters, which made it easier for her daughter, Amber, to move in and out of their home. With concerns about emergencies, Walters expressed gratitude, saying Amber was “thrilled” with the new ramp.
The initiative, supported by the nonprofit Group Mission Trips, involved volunteers transforming fourteen homes in the community. The projects included installing ramps, painting houses, and building porches. Pastor Doug Beaty from Westside Christian Church oversaw the activities, noting how refreshing it was to see youth dedicating time to assist others, even if it meant giving up their phones or family time.
These young volunteers didn’t just focus on physical labor; they also engaged with the homeowners through spiritual gatherings, deepening connections within the community. Beaty hopes that this example of sacrifice and service will inspire other communities to participate in similar acts of kindness in the future.
