HarbourVest Partners Secures $4.75 Billion for Its Seventh Direct Co-Investment Initiative

HarbourVest Partners has successfully closed its HarbourVest Partners Co-Investment Fund VII Program, raising approximately $4.75 billion, surpassing its $4 billion target. This fund marks the seventh direct co-investment initiative for HarbourVest, enabling investors to access a diversified portfolio of direct co-investments in buyout and growth equity strategies.

The program aims to invest alongside private market sponsors across various transaction types, supporting the pursuit of high-quality private market opportunities while ensuring diversification and disciplined portfolio management. Notably, a dedicated fund within HCF VII has raised over $500 million, focusing on growth-equity and expansion-stage investments in sectors such as AI, healthcare innovation, high-growth industries, and disruptive technologies.

Over the past two years, HarbourVest raised more than $10 billion in co-investment capital, which helps scale its operations and strengthens its position as a preferred partner for private equity managers globally. The firm reports improving market conditions with increased transaction activity, providing more liquidity opportunities. With over 40 years in direct co-investing and a global co-investment platform supported by over 60 investment professionals, HarbourVest has committed around $47 billion to more than 1,350 direct equity co-investments since its inception.

John Toomey, CEO of HarbourVest, emphasizes the importance of co-investments for investors seeking high-quality opportunities while maintaining diversified portfolios. Ian Lane, Managing Director, notes the evolving co-investment market and the firm’s positioning to invest alongside leading sponsors while balancing portfolio exposure across both mature and growing companies.
