Toyota has announced it will move production of its Tacoma pick-up truck from Mexico to the U.S. as part of a $3.6 billion investment in its Texas plant. This decision follows Washington’s recent refusal to renew a North American trade pact with Mexico and Canada, generating uncertainty for businesses.
The company had previously indicated plans to invest up to $10 billion in the U.S. over five years. The new assembly line in San Antonio will create over 2,000 jobs and boost annual production capacity by 150,000 units, set to be operational by 2030.
The shift aligns with the trend among major automakers to relocate production to the U.S. amid increasing tariffs on auto-related imports. Although the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) remains active for another decade, the U.S. has announced an annual review of the trade agreement, likely affecting investor confidence.
