Rep. Don Davis announces $25M funding as a move to revive Martin General Hospital.

Funding Approved for Martin General Hospital Reopening

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – Congressman Don Davis announced a significant $25 million investment approved by state lawmakers aimed at reopening Martin General Hospital, which closed in 2023. This funding is part of the recently approved $34 billion state budget.

The plan is to transition Martin General Hospital into a rural emergency facility. “The General Assembly’s investment sends a clear message that rural communities matter,” Davis stated, emphasizing that families shouldn’t have to travel far during medical emergencies due to hospital closures.

While the state funding is a vital step, Davis noted that further financial support will be necessary for the hospital’s reopening. He has previously requested $175 million in federal funding from President Trump to aid in reopening Martin General and expanding inpatient services at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital.

Davis highlighted that this funding would not only restore emergency services but also generate jobs and enhance healthcare in Eastern Carolina. Additionally, he has introduced legislation to support the sustainability of rural emergency hospitals and remains committed to the hospital’s reopening efforts.
