Verkada Secures Nvidia Funding to Enhance Its Physical AI Platform

Verkada Inc., a physical security company, has partnered with Nvidia to enhance the AI capabilities across its 2.4 million connected devices. The investment amount was not disclosed, but it follows a previous funding round where Verkada reached a $5.8 billion valuation.

Verkada’s product range includes security cameras, access control, alarms, and environmental sensors, all managed through a cloud interface. The technology is used by 30,000 organizations worldwide, including over 100 Fortune 500 companies.

Key to this partnership are Nvidia’s Cosmos models and the Physical AI Data Factory toolkit, which aids in creating synthetic footage for training AI models. This collaboration aims to improve video search capabilities, significantly increasing accuracy in finding specific footage.

CEO Filip Kaliszan noted that Nvidia’s involvement amplifies Verkada’s nearly decade-long work in developing AI solutions for safety and efficiency across various sectors, including education and retail.

Additionally, Verkada is exploring complex reasoning models to enhance incident detection in real-time scenarios, such as spotting safety issues in factories or theft in stores.

However, the company has faced challenges, including a significant breach in 2021 that exposed camera feeds from numerous locations. Overall, this partnership places Verkada in a robust position, especially as it surpassed $1 billion in booked revenue around the same time it secured funding from CapitalG.
